Found in Excavation I, 24×18 inches, Photographic print

The concept of my self portrait series stems from a process of self excavation of identity and my placement within the world as a black female identified body. My work is ultimately an exploration and investigation of a prescribed mentality and addressing notions of wellness, self care, and self-determination as it pertains to black female identified bodies. Depicted within a constructed and vacant environment, my work also addresses physical and performance based resistance against standard/stereotypical notions of black women’s physical movement and navigation within our oppressive and binary structured society.
