From beginning of my career as a female artist, I felt and expressed anger in self portraiture. I never felt that this was entirely acceptable and certainly was not pretty. But pretty was never really my goal. “The Quiet Storm” was an exception: my so-called saintly grandmother (who I was named after) fairly seethed with the quiet resentment of the belittled woman.
