These images are from a series about the importance of public freedom of expression. In spite of the growing use of electronics to give voice to individual and public opinion, activists continue to use the power of people in public spaces to protest, air grievances, and spur calls to action. This is especially true when matters boil over. When people are frustrated with lack of action and feel they are not being heard, the next step is to take to the streets, to display their personal commitment to the cause, to demonstrate the sheer force and volume of their community, and to use their voices to speak out.
