Woman Made Gallery Literary Series

Reading: Sunday, April 10, 2016, 1:00 – 3:00 pm
Deadline for submissions: March 6, 2016 11:59 pm
Place: 685 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago IL

Theme: Identity and Definition: What it MEANS to be ______________

We are looking for poems exploring what it means to be a certain race, class, gender, religion, work, political affiliation, age, or even diagnosis. How it is to be marginalized, disabled, adopted, bullied, victim or criminal, etc. The experience of being any combination of these things. More broadly, we are looking for poems that give form and voice to that which defines or identifies any thing or person.

We are looking for
– Poems that explore all aspects of identity and defining traits, from first, second or third person perspectives;
– Persona poems
– Poems in the form of dictionary definition, wikipedia entry, diagnosis, etc.

Please send 4 – 6 poems on the theme ALONG WITH a 50 to 75 word bio, IN THE BODY OF AN E-MAIL to by March 6, 11:59 pm. We will make every effort to inform those chosen of our decision by March 13. Although we can’t afford to pay readers, this is a great opportunity to sell books and read with other talented people in a very special environment.

Selections will be made with an eye to assembling a program that represents a diversity of poets, styles, and approaches to the theme.

Selected poets MUST be available to read in person.
