Imitor Virgo Fructuarius (84″ x 36″), needles, syringes, medical packaging, acrylic paint, pumice gel, wood, $7000

After two miscarriages, five surgeries and numerous infertility treatments, I was yet again about to start the shots for a round of IVF. I looked at the needles, syringes and packaging and knew there was a way to make something beautiful from this long and painful journey. Madonna and child seemed like the perfect image to create and so (IVF) “Imitor Virgo Fructuarius” “I imitate the fertile virgin” was born. Not only does it relate to an infertile woman going through IVF, but also the fact that virgins today can and have gotten pregnant and given birth.
