ARTIST STATEMENT

My current project, ‘Sparkle Days’ examines the inherent conflict between luxury lifestyles and ecological limits- the perils and glories of life in the hydrocarbon era. In otherwise moody, diaristic/solipsistic collage images, I incorporate kitschy laser paper, iridescent packaging scraps and mundane plastic detritus reflecting petrochemical sheen, advertised glamour, or natural phenomena such as opalescent insects wings. I seek aesthetic poetry in the mundane (a favorite car, building or found scrap) and create elegiac offerings to towering elms, dead birds and ‘perfect days’.
