Since the enslaved African woman was first captured and forced to take the horrific voyage from her land to the New World, her life and the lives of her progeny were forever changed. Forced to endure atrocities rarely spoken of, SHE endured. Nina Simone, in her song “Four Women” creates the possible lives of four of that progeny.

And what remains of that first woman’s progeny, against all odds, was that, is that, capacity to endure.
