Alex is a Mexican artist living in Chicago. She came to the United States at the tender age of ten and grew up in a less diverse suburb of Chicago. At home Alex was raised with traditional Mexican customs and actively engaged in an Americanized culture outside of home. Her work embodies the hybridity of two cultures; her childhood experiences, traditions and social commentary by using Mexican folk art toys such as “Lupita” dolls and collages inspired by the Dada art movement of the early 20th century European avant-garde.
